LECHUGUILLA CLANDE LUPE LOPEZ ENSAMBLE JOVEN LOTE 2

Sotol Clande celebrates the art and tradition of artisanal spirits in Chihuahua. Clandestine distilleries were very common in northern Mexico and were called vinatas. They usually produced both Sotol (from Dasylirion) and Lechuguilla (from agave). Vinatas were banned in the early 1900s and Maestros Sotoleros were even, at times, arrested. The Sotol Clande represents sotol and lechuguillas from different areas with different terroirs; it is a project aimed at supporting small local producers, to improve their living conditions. Master Sotolero Lupe Lopez's Clande Lechuguilla Ensamble, is distilled in Madera, Chihuahua from 40 percent Dasylirion Wheeleri and 60 percent Agave Shrevei, cooked in underground conical ovens, molten by hand, fermented thanks to wild yeasts, is then distilled in small 38-liter copper pot stills. Herbaceous, raw, smoky, a very limited release.
