Patrick van Zuidam's great dream has always been to create his own whisky. In 1996 he began the first experiments and only after several improvements was he able to achieve perfection and thus produce the first Dutch whisky on the market: Millstone. The name refers to the Dutch mills used to grind the grain used to make the whiskies. By using the windmills, the Zuidam family distillery is helping to preserve the important world-famous Dutch heritage.
This release of Millstone, produced by the Zuidam distillery, is distinguished by being aged first in American oak barrels for three years, then aged for about 14 months in ex-Moscatel casks, a finish that gives it unusual, smooth notes; it is warm and enveloping on the palate, and the long finish has almost memories of a slight peatiness.
