Elie Ferrand VIII, one of the Ferrand family's most celebrated master distillers, used to stroll through his vineyards, assaying the quality of the grapes, with his ubiquitous walking stick, following the traces left by his ancestors. Alexandre Gabriel, having learned of the story, wanted to pay tribute to him with this very elegant release, whose cork is a faithful imitation of the knob of Elie's trusty walking stick. It is a blend composed of the best and oldest barrels of Ferrand Grande Champagne cognac, distilled from Ugni Blanc grape wine, in the typical open-flame still. And it is the sometimes very advanced age of the distillates that are part of it that has decreed its name, the Selection of Angels, what the angels have left us. On tasting, notes of jasmine, honeysuckle and hazelnuts stand out on the nose, followed by hints of vanilla, chocolate and a slight spiciness; on the palate, however, hints of candied fruit, saffron, ginger, nutmeg and cedar appear. The finish is long, very elegant and satisfying.
A limited edition, a must have for any true fan of one of the world's finest spirits.
