Founded in 1826 by James Henderson, Old Pulteney is the beating heart of the hamlet of Wick renowned both for its whiskeys and for the quality of its excellent herring. It is no coincidence that in the 19th century itself, the Scottish town was famous for its gold, whiskey, and silver, herring.
This Single Malt is born in Wick, in the far northern Highlands, where it ages for 18 years partly in ex-bourbon barrels and partly in Spanish oak casks, from which it gets much of its character but also, and no less, from the winds and saltiness of the North Sea. Together warm and savory, floral and with hints of bitter chocolate and green apple. Stunning and important, an excellent companion for winter evenings.
