Aikan means "marriage" in Arawak, the language of the first Amerindians who populated Martinique. In the case of this whisky, the marriage is celebrated between two continents, two climates (temperate in Europe, tropical in the Caribbean), and two exceptional universes, that of rum and whisky. After all, whisky and rum are similar in many ways: like its malty cousin, rum has in its vocabulary terms and processes such as column or still distillation, fermentation and yeast, blend, single cask, and vintage.
In short, it is from this extraordinary and unusual union that the subtle and singular character of Aikan arises.
Moreover, the reduction of Aikan Whisky is achieved thanks to spring water that flows from the bowels of Mount Pelée, a dormant volcano in Martinique. This pure and mineral-rich water contributes to the exceptional quality of Aikan Whisky.
Aikan Intense Rhum Barrels features a profile marked by tropical fruits and pastry notes resulting from the extensive use of rum and bourbon barrels.
It is distilled in Scotland where it is aged for three years before continuing its maturation in a Martinique winery in a tropical climate for at least a year. Essentially red bourbon barrels from various Kentucky distilleries, "Grand Arôme" rum barrels and a small portion of French oak barrels are used.
