CHARACTERISTICS:

The Langhe d.o.c. appellation brings together some of the most important production areas and grape varieties in the world. This wine is made entirely in a new estate that we purchased in early 1999, located a few hundred metres from our company headquarters, on the edge of the Barbaresco area. This is a very steep terrain, characterised by the presence of a palm tree within it and which is, for geographical reasons of municipal boundaries, only half usable for the production of Nebbiolo da Barbaresco. In the remaining part, equally suggestive and unrecognisable without the aid of topographical instruments, the Nebbiolo produced cannot therefore become Barbaresco with ageing.  The name and graphics of the label express characteristics of innovation and internationality to which the blending of two varieties can lead. Long Now expresses the concept of the long present and is the name that some important Californian scientists and intellectuals (Long Now Foundation) gave to the particular clock depicted on the label, now in the Science and Technology Museum in London.

TECHNICAL NOTES:

A wine of innovative conception, it is produced by seeking to maximise the potential of two varieties from relatively old vines, creating wines that are soft, persistent and, above all, long-aged. Separate vinification for the two varieties. End of fermentation and first decanting still in steel before moving on to wood. Matured for almost two years in small oak barrels, it is then blended before bottling and left to rest for almost a year in the bottle before being marketed. The characteristics are those of an important, austere, Langhe wine with great potential.

TASTING SHEET:

To the eye, this wine has a bluish violet red colour, almost black and not very penetrating, but at the same time lively and particularly pleasant. Impenetrable characteristics can also be perceived on the nose with a very marked varietal component and aromas of very ripe fruit, blackberry, raspberry and red cherry, which frame the barely perceptible vanilla notes. Pronounced on the palate, open, full, velvety, enveloping, it expresses at its best the characteristics of savouriness and elegance that the two varieties possess and that enhance, when well modelled, the pleasantness of taste.
