CHARACTERISTICS:
The latest of our Barbaresco wines, the first bottles date from 2001. It belongs to an important appellation in terms of history, tradition and culture and has all the strength and complexity that a great grape variety can express. The brand name Nubiola in fact refers to the name used in the historical agricultural treatise De Ruralium Commodorum (1330) by Pier Dè Crescenzi (a jurist from Bologna) to describe one of the best vines known at the time, describing 'a black grape spice called Nubiola... which is wonderfully vinous... and makes excellent wine'. Today we call it Nebbiolo (Nubiola is pronounced with the accent on the o).
TECHNICAL NOTES:
The Nebbiolo variety that makes up 100% of the Barbaresco wine is the focal point of this wine, which we consider the starting point Barbaresco, the base from which to arrive at the best on our two selections. Precisely because of the different composition of the soils of origin, the consequent vinification techniques used and the historicity that we wanted to express with the name, it is a very traditional Barbaresco. It is vinified in temperature-controlled steel tanks with periodic mechanical punching-down, then aged in wood using small barrels and large 50 Hl oak casks depending on the characteristics of the vintage, always with the intention of enhancing the varietal characteristics of Nebbiolo.
TASTING DATA SHEET
Bright and inviting ruby red in colour, it presents itself on the nose with foreal and fruity notes ranging from ripe red fruit to typical offcinal herb notes. Soft, savoury and velvety at the same time, it leaves on the taste buds a note of sweetness and roundness typical of ripe grapes, with a slightly dry and astringent finish that has always distinguished Nebbiolo.
