BARBARESCO DOCG VANOTU

Production area: Cascina Vanotu located on the crossroads of the three communes of the Barbaresco area; Treiso, Barbaresco (where we also have a small farmhouse) and Neive.

Variety: 100% Nebbiolo; southern exposure. Altitude from 300 to 350 a.s.l. Year of planting 1964.

Training system: gujot.

Plant density per hectare: 4000

Soil: Medium-textured with a rich calcareous component suitable for making very aromatic and very varietal wines.

CHARACTERISTICS:

Vanotu is the diminutive in Piedmontese dialect of Giovanni, Giorgio's grandfather and former owner of this vineyard. It is a part of our estate to which we are very attached. Thanks to the particular microclimate and the position this land enjoys, we are able to obtain, even in small vintages, wines of great character and personality.

TECHNICAL NOTES:

Produced with modern and innovative techniques (controlled temperatures, timed and programmed automatic mechanical punching-down) trying to bring the maximum exaltation of the varietal characteristics of Nebbiolo into the bottle. Matured for about two years in barriques and nine months in the bottle, the aim is to obtain concentration, fruit and soft, enveloping tannic complexity. The desire is to make an innovative wine while trying to maintain and enhance the great qualities of Nebbiolo to the maximum. The first vintage bottled was 1960.

TASTING DATA SHEET

Intense and ample colour of a beautiful ruby red, it expresses itself on the nose with fruity notes of raspberry and cherry accompanied and well harmonised with persuasive woody notes such as vanilla. The aromatic framework, in addition to the typical hints of roses, is completed with notes of sage, mint, thyme and chamomile, constant over the years to the extent that they almost constitute the trademark of this soil. In the mouth, it is velvety broad and enveloping with sweet and persistent tannins. The great polyphenolic structure of Nebbiolo and the right acid-tannic ratio of this wine are certainly synonymous with long ageing.
