The Great Challenge: The Grand Blazon "Riesling Kaiton" Kuen Hof  against ""Riesling " Maso Marinushof and "Riesling Berg" Tenuta Ignaz Niedrist

Riesling Kaiton Kuen Hof

Riesling arrived in South Tyrol in the 19th century.  Originally, this type of vine came from Germany. We were, in 1993, the first winery in our area to cultivate this type of grape. Riesling grows in the locations of: Teis, Lahner and Gasteiger. The terraces on the steep slopes of the Lahner proved to be particularly ideal for this type of grape.

Our Riesling is a structured wine with a pronounced fruitiness and roundness.

Kaiton is the name we have given to our Riesling. It was only in 2002 that this grape variety was granted DOC status in the Eisack valley.

That is why it was decided to call it Kaiton, whose name is of Celtic origin and means forest. The area around the Kuenhof and the village of Tschötsch (Scezze) were in fact originally named after it.

Riesling Berg Estate Ignaz Niedrist

Already during his oenology studies in Germany, Ignaz discovered his passion for Riesling, which he soon wanted to cultivate in his own vineyards. Here, the Riesling vines are found on the cooler, eastern slopes, surrounded by shady beech trees. The Dolomite rock and the altitude of 600 m give the wine subtle notes of peach and citrus, with a fresh acidity. Although it matures outside the traditional wine-growing areas, it has great potential for development over the years.
