Originally the word "elixir" distinguished the compound prepared by the pharmacist, for purely curative purposes, from the sweeter, "feminine" spirits known as "rosoli," prepared by liquor makers for consumption on social and leisure occasions. Over the years, these categories have blended, originating recipes in which bitter and digestive plants are juxtaposed with more pleasant and refreshing tones: it is from this late 19th-century tradition that our Rhubarb Mint Elixir is inspired.
