In 1951, when it was born, this Canadian whiskey was supposed to be called Black Label, but Jack Napier, the first Master Distiller, after tasting the first batch, decided to call it Black Velvet, for its incredible velvety softness. Black Velvet whiskey is made from a selection of high quality rye, barley and corn and crystal clear Canadian water, distilled and aged in ex-Bourbon barrels.
