Patrick van Zuidam's great dream has always been to create his own whisky. In 1996 he began the first experiments and only after several improvements was he able to achieve perfection and thus produce the first Dutch whisky on the market: Millstone. The name refers to the Dutch mills used to grind the grain used to make the whiskies. By using the windmills, the Zuidam family distillery helps to preserve the important world-famous Dutch heritage. In addition, the slow grinding of the windmills causes no temperature rise in the grain thus helping to preserve all the wonderful aroma. It is distilled in small traditional stills consisting of a large copper surface. The contact between the alcoholic vapors and the copper allows all unwanted substances to be removed and stimulates the formation of fruity and complex esters.
