The story goes that in 1786, the Savoys drastically stopped the production of Rosolio throughout the Kingdom of Sardinia: a bottle of Vermouth had arrived on their tables. Dedicated by Dr. Domenico Ulrich to King Umberto I, of stern character and military virtue, Rosso Superiore reveals itself by its austere, yet incredibly drinkable, charming character, for meditation or for the end of a meal. Full, vibrant, rich, it is distinguished by bitter notes of cinchona and hyssop. Unique to Re Umberto Rosso Superiore is the aging of the botanicals: after the essences are extracted, the tinctures remain 6 months in aging wood: a technique that gives intense color and wonderful balsamicity, full-bodied roundness and velvety tannins.
